Creating Energetic Boundaries - Animals

Energetic boundaries are nothing new, but here are some practical tips on applying them with animals. They also work for humans too, which I’ll talk about in a later blog ; )

If you own animals, you likely interact with other animals and people, whether it's at the vet's office or maybe when the handyman is doing repairs at your home. Many situations you cannot control. I visualize and summon energetic boundaries when I need to leave my dog at a boarding situation or when other horses or external stimuli appear at the farm.

First, become aware of your own emotions or feelings. If you’re too upset or grief-stricken at the given moment and cannot find a neutral mental or emotional state, this can energetically leak into the boundary. Take a few moments to sit, breathe, let it go. Talking to a trusted friend can also help the intense or unbalanced energy flow from you. This is a normal experience around emotionally charged situations and the more you practice, the more perceptive you will become.

Once you are in a calm and centered state, visualize your pet(s), seeing them in your mind’s eye and perhaps saying their name to yourself. Invite a beautiful bubble of safety around your animals. Mine looks like an igloo threaded by glistening, luminescent spider web. It’s somewhat transparent so that my animals can be a part of the greater community, i.e. the herd or the pack, but they have their own protections. Imagine a color and texture for your energetic boundaries.

Believe in this beautiful bubble of protection and safety. Close your eyes and paint it around your animal. Spend a few moments picturing this web around the stall, the paddock, a safe space / room or the physical being of your animal. You can create this protection around an object or the animal itself. When Oskar goes to doggie boarding, I sprinkle some extra positive and healing energy onto the quiet library room where he likes to nap away from the puppies and younger dogs.

Let the space and animals within your bubble feel invited to become grounded, calm, safe and comfortable to be themselves. The shift is generally instantaneous, but It may take a few hours or days for the energetic boundary to work its magic as the animals realize its positive effects.

After recent commotion at the horse farm, I used this technique to create an energetic boundary around my horse, Dolly, and her new miniature horse friend. When the mini arrived at the barn, many of the full-sized horses did not like her and were even scared of this three-foot tall “terror.” The horses were running and snorting, and the stressed barn manager tried moving horses into different stalls and paddocks in advance of a farrier (blacksmith) visit.

Even I was feeling the intense, unsettled energy, and surprised how upset the horses had become and how discouraged it made me feel. After a lavender Epsom salt bath and meditation time that evening, I checked in telepathically with Dolly. She was sensing the frenzied energy and reacting to the other the other horses who were unsure of the new mini. She was also picking up on the fearful and stressed barn manager in addition to feeling cooped up from being in the barn due to bad rain the past two days.

I felt the stressed and frenzied energy as well. In my telepathic connection with Dolly, I took some time with my eye closed to lengthen my exhalations, feel my heart rate decrease, and let the intense energy move from her space. Then I envisioned her stall and run-out paddock. I painted the beautiful energetic boundary from the ground up, filled with love and light and peace. I invited Chloe, the mini horse, into the safety of the igloo as well.

Once the energy in me felt more settled, I requested the energetic boundary to stay for a few days until it was safe to let the web slowly dissolve. I thanked all the animals, the universe, and the energetic connection we all share.

This work is so powerful that the next day Dolly was much calmer and the excitement of the mini horse had worn off. The following day after that, Dolly and the mini were walking together and mutual grooming. You have the power to shift the energy and help share healthy boundaries with your animal family.

Energetic boundaries benefit our animals and us humans. Instead of being pulled into the worry, chaos, fear, or stress of an unwanted situation, we can step back and feel strong by maintaining our energy in a safe space and knowing we are supported by nature and spirit.
